Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: Tomas Alfredson presents a greatly manufactured film, top to bottom. From the meticulously complex screenplay (the adaptation of John le Carré’s novel is excellent, even if it’s a bit cold, but it’s a cold world being portrayed) to the subdued performances (Gary Oldman was never in finer form, but the whole cast is great-looking and simply perfect); from the somber costume design and set design to the way they are captured by the elegant and rich camerawork of Hoyte Van Hoytema.
