Stories We Tell: in a way, Sarah Polley is very fortunate to have such a great story to tell in this documentary; a story that is touching, attractive and filled with such a great array of characters. Of course, there’s more to it to explain the success of this film; it’s very engagingly told (an interesting mix of types of footage in many different time settings) and it’s as much an essay of the concept of memory and storytelling as it is an account of how this particular story unfurled over time. The visual choices and execution (by cinematographer Iris Ng, editor Mike Munn and the director herself) are essential to this film to work this well.
