Children of Men: quite well-written sci-fi about a sad, drab future (not over-explaining what is going on is a great part of it). Strong cast, but what really elevates this is the amazing camera work by Emmanuel Lubezki. (But of course my bias towards long, continuous takes is quite well-documented.)
