Fifth about The Seventh

Asterix – The Secret of the Magic Potion (Astérix – Le Secret de la Potion Magique)

Asterix – The Secret of the Magic Potion: Alexandre Astier and Louis Clichy’s second film in the animated series is an original story, not an adaptation of Goscinny & Uderzo’s comics, but for the most part, no difference can be felt. The plot has a good villain, memorable and sinister (nicely voiced by Daniel Mesguich), and lots of opportunities for silliness and satire. Character design mostly follow the original material, but it’s a fine source of humour when it’s able to deviate from it and create new, minor characters; as such, they are always very distinguishable. The visuals, in general, are again effective, even if they lack a certain sheen, a curious creative choice. World design is simple and effective, with some variety in the types of locations.
