Fifth about The Seventh

Asterix – The Mansions of the Gods (Astérix – Le Domaine des Dieux)

Asterix – The Mansions of the Gods: Louis Clichy and Alexandre Astier’s adaptation of Goscinny & Uderzo’s classic comic is expectedly a breezy, entertaining, light film, like the original material. The satire is broad but still equal-opportunity, pointed and funny, and the characters are engaging and loveable. The voice acting is not particularly memorable, but it gets the job done. The animation itself follows the same route, being effective but not particularly eye-popping (it also uses somewhat washed-out colors, which adds to that feeling). Character design (inherited from the comic books, pretty much tit-for-tat) is quite solid: all main characters are distinctive and instantly recognizable; the world is well-done but limited in scope.
