Fifth about The Seventh

I Lost My Body (J’ai Perdu Mon Corps)

I Lost My Body: at face value, one could believe that a story about the adventures of a disembodied hand is bizarre, a bit sinister and lacking in humanity, but that could not be further from the truth in Jérémy Clapin’s animated film. The story turns out to be touching and inspiring and, in spite of actually being a book adaptation, feels like something original and fresh. The animation is beautiful, from the realistic behaviour of the hand to the many views of Paris, passing through the character design for the main characters. Editor Benjamin Massoubre nicely navigates two different sets of flashbacks, and balances that with the present-day aforementioned adventures. The voice acting, anchored by Hakim Faris and Victoire Du Bois, is really good. Composer Dan Levy’s musical score is an important asset.
