Tully: Jason Reitman’s film takes an interesting and utterly unglamorous look at motherhood, one that is touching and enlightening to those that are not equipped to this particular job. It’s somewhat of an odd story, one that is at the same time touching and uncomfortable, and that lands in a dubious place. Much of it depends on the acting, and the film nails it: Charlize Theron has a fine character to play with, and the emotional stages are all well-represented; Mackenzie Davis has an ethereal beauty and presence; their interaction is very believable and they deliver the nice Diablo Cody dialogue quite well. Stefan Grube’s editing gives the film a nice, fast pace.
